This leisurely walk through the Laranz forest is pure idyllic perfection for hikers: Fresh, woody air, a panoramic platform, mushrooms sculpted from tree trunks and a view fit for a king. The mushroom trail takes you on an enchanting trip through carved amanita mushrooms, boletus, chanterelle, fly agaric mushrooms and many more, and leads to the Königswarte (kings view) look-out point with its breathtaking views.
This hiking tour can be found in the family hiking booklet “Out and About with Nix the Witch” (hiking tour no. 2)
The set-off point for this hike is in Telfen (between Seis and Kastelruth). First we follow the main road to the sports field Laranz, where the trail starts on the left side into the forest. After another 700 m the mushroom trail (“Pilzeweg”) starts on the right side.
Display boards along the path explain all about the world of mushrooms. On the nature trail, you will meet death cap, boletus, chanterelle, fly agaric and a wealth of other mushrooms in the form of carved tree trunks. All of these mushrooms grow in the Laranz forest. At the highest point of the route, a wooden viewing platform boasts beautiful views over the area.
After the short loop trail, the hike continues onwards to the “Königswarte”– the “King’s Vantage Point”. This special look-out spot was named for King Frederick Augustus of Saxony, who loved to come here and enjoy the views during his stays in Seis. From the "Königswarte" we follow the same trail back to the starting point.
Telfen is located between Seis and Kastelruth. Possibility of parking at the public swimming pool and the Telfen sports centre.
